Magpies Visit

Magpies visit Clive School
Clive School came second in the ITM sticker competition (Te Mata came first).  As part of the prize we got a visit from three Magpies.  We also got posters and tickets to this week’s game.  The rugby players in Room 3 got the signatures of the Magpies.
The Magpies asked questions and if you knew the correct answer you got a rugby ball prize!  Well done Baxter!!

Here are some photos of today’s fun!  And lucky Clive School has now got seven rugby balls to play with at our break times.

Shake Out

At nine fifteen today the whole of New Zealand is practicing if there’s an Earthquake.  At Clive School they’re going to ring the bell.  You have to drop, cover and hold.  And you hold your desk legs.  If you don’t practice you are never going to know what to do.  Even John Key is going to do it!  And you always have to protect your head and neck.  Earthquakes in New Zealand are only little Earthquakes but in Napier in the 1930s there was a hugeeeeeeeeeee one. All the buildings were damaged and lots of people were killed.

The WHOLE of New Zealand is doing a practice drill of the pretend Earthquake called shake out.  At Clive School we hide under a desk and hold our grip so we can protect us.  Ding, ding, ding, ding (the bells keeps ringing) every body did the shake out.  The class understands the warning and just as the bell rang for the 8th ding went under our desks.  We hid for one minute and then wheeeeeeeeoieeeeeeeooooiiiiiieeeeeeee.  The Civil Defence quarters signal warns us and Ms Petherick tells the class it is for after shocks and possible Tsunami.

At 9:15 the whole of New Zealand are practicing an Earthquake drill.  At Clive School someone will ring the bell for a whole minute.  We have to drop, cover and hold!!!!!!!  You need to cover your neck and head.  We need to go under our desk and chair.  Your legs and feet go under your chair.  Outside I would go under a platform or go onto the court.  If I was on the field I would go to the middle of the field.  If it as real you would smell smoke and dust everywhere. It would be bad to be in a real Earthquake.
