Cyclone Pam

The tail end of Cyclone Pam hit Hawkes Bay on Monday.  It inspired us to write rain stories.  Here are a few examples of our writing -

Rain by Zak
You can hear the thunder crashing.  Where did the rain come from?  The eels are in the river.  Where does the lightning come from?  How does the rain begin? What happened to the Hills?  I step in the puddles.  When has the cyclone gone?  I Like the rain when I step in it.

The Rough Rain by Josh
I see lightening in the distance.  I hear the loud thunder.  I smell the wonderful dirty smell of eels.  I feel  the rough rain dropping on my body.  I taste the rain drops.  I think I might get struck by lightning.  I go outside to have some fun.  I feel really, really happy.  “I like awesome thunder storms.”

Rain by Harper
I see the heavy storm.  I hear the rustling trees because the wind blew the trees.  I smell the cold rain.  I feel the puddles splashing on my feet.  I taste the rain by opening my mouth.  I think I would get soaked if I went outside in the rain.  I would do the twister game inside.  I feel cold inside me.  “I am freezing.”

Rain by Bryn
I see the eels jumping up and down in the rain.  I hear thunder and swishing trees.  I smell the wet mud and wet grass.  I feel wet wood.  I taste the pouring rain.  I think I’m going to get struck by lightning.

The Cyclone by Baxter
I see strong dangerous rain and wind.  I hear the howling loud wind.  I smell the grassy water.  I feel the deep, deep water.  I taste the heavy strong rain by holding my mouth open.  I think it will flood.  I’ll keep safe in my house.  I feel a bit scared.  “Yah.  I’m safe”

The Cyclone by Eli
I see he heavy rain pouncing on our deck!  I hear the rain dripping on our veranda.  I smell the green soft grass.  I feel the brown mud.  I taste the plain watery rain, by opening my mouth.  I think it will be quite windy at lunch time.  I will keep safe everywhere by keeping inside and eating and drinking.  I feel really safe because I am indoors.  I say “Yay.  I’m safe indoors.”

Rain by Lachie
I see rain sploshing on the deck.  I hear the rain splashing on the roof.  I smell the wet grass.  I feel the rain on my head.  I taste the plain rain.  I think it will flood.  I got lots of batteries.  I feel safe inside.  I said “Yah!”

Rain by Lucia
I see the icky sticky dirty muddy mud.  I hear the cool and cold windy wind blowing in the trees.  I smell the happiness from the plants and trees because the rain is pouring on the plants.  I feel the pouring rain dropping on my skin.  I taste the dirty muddy mud.  I think there might be a food!!! I like splashing in the puddles.  I feel like it is going to be a great day.  I’m saying it is a good day.

Rain by Alex
I see trees shaking in the wind.  I hear things drip dropping.  I smell the glimmer water.  I feel water bursting down my throat.  I taste sticky windy mud.  I think I might want to stay inside.  I do, I am splashing.  I love splashing in a puddle. I say “when will it stop?”

Rain by Brooke
You can see rain making the plants grow.  I hear loud thumps on the roof.  I smell icky sticky mud.  I feel the cold water rushing down.  I taste the cold air.  Oh how I want to go outside.  I would splash in the puddles. I love splashing in the puddles.  “Oh look it’s raining.”

Rain by Jayden

I see the rain bouncing on the concrete.  I hear the water roaring in the trees.  Roar! Roar! It is loud and I can hear the tree fall to the ground. I smell the good smell of the rain.  I feel the wet rain and the cold puddles.  I taste the wet rain. It tastes like normal water.  I think there might be a big flood.  On the beach you might see dead fish.  It will get repaired.
