Persuasive Argument
We have been learning to write persuasive arguments. This means we are trying to persuade a person to believe or agree to something.
For a persuasive argument you need:
# to pick a side
# have a strong starting statement. The end sentence should be the same.
# have three good points to back up your argument.
Here are some of our ideas.

You should not be allowed to bring toys to school because…
You might lose them
You might get them stolen
You might steal them
So should not be allowed to bring toys to School
By Bryn
Children should not be allowed to stay up as long as they
like because…
They might stay up late and watch TV
They might miss their sports games
They might be late for school
So therefore children should not be allowed to stay up as
long as they like
By Brooke
Children should do homework because they will never get
clever or smart. And when they are
adults they want to know how to spell.
You learn your words because you do homework so therefore we should do
homework.
By Harper
Children should do homework because it helps us do our
learning. So we can do our maths goals
and our maths sheet and our spelling and our reading. Our reading eggs to get it to helps us
read. You get better so we go home and
do our homework. So we should do our
homework.
By Leyton
You are not allowed to bring toys to school because…
Bullies would steal them.
They would get lost.
Bullies would break them.
So therefore I don’t think you should be allowed to bring
toys to school.
By Finn
Children should do homework because…
You will get really smart
You have to know reading.
You can spell to when you go to work.
You will know more things about the ting in the book.
Children should do homework.
By Jayden
I think you should be allowed to play sport in the rain
because…
You’re supposed to get muddy in sport.
It’s really AWESOME in the rain.
You can slide.
So therefore you should be allowed to play sport in the
rain.
By Baxter
You should do your homework because you learn more and you
learn maths and reading and more so therefore I think we should do homework
By Toby
Children should not be allowed to stay up as long as they
like because…
At school you might fall to sleep or won’t do your work or
be grumpy.
Children should not be allowed to stay up as long as they
like.
By Ned
Children should be allowed to do homework because you will
be smart. You will get good. You will be smart and do good work. Children should be allowed to do homework
because you will be smart.
By Lucus
Children should be allowed to stay up as long as they like because…
They can have fun.
They can take time at doing stuff and they might get grumpy
about not staying up as long as they like.
So children should be allowed to stay up as long as they like.
By Jolie
Children should do homework because…
When we are older we are not going to be at school.
You can not know everything.
What will be invented in the future?
So therefore children should do homework.

Pride
Rudy came to talk to us today about his Father - Tafai Ioasa. He is very proud of him and his accomplishments. He showed us the shirts he played in and the medals he has earned. Rudy said his Dad ...
needed to practice hard, show determination and try even when the going was tough. He also needed to be responsible, turning up to practices, getting himself organised and training hard. We think Rudy is a good example of someone showing PRIDE. He is very proud of his wonderful Dad.

Speech Marks
We have been learning to use speech marks in our writing. We have written some stories which include speech marks to help show off the skill of using speech marks. Here are some stories written by punctuation champs!
"I'm bored".
"Bring the fire wood” said Mum "I did that yesterday" said Bryn.
"Can I have a friend over? ...” "Yes” “Can Ned come over? We will go
fishing.” When Mum called and we played on the motor bikes! It was fun. I did a
jump. Ned didn't do a jump. I wondered if we would go fishing? And... We did. We caught an eel. It was a
whopper ( I smashed it ) Finally the day was over. Ned stayed the night.
We stayed up to 9:30 and we did Shadow puppets to 11:40.

"Mum, Mum!,"
yelled Lucia "Can I go to Harper's house?" " No!" yelled
Mum. "But, but Harper's my best friend." (Harpers my neighbour]
"Still no" said Mum. (I begged my Mum) "Please, please, pretty
please.” "Fine!” Said Mum. "Yay, yay!” yelled Lucia. I went outside,
went and knocked on Harpers door. "Harper I asked my Mum if I can play
with you and she said yes." So we went and played.
By Lucia
“Mum! Can Baxter come?.”
“No!” “Why?” “You didn't tidy up last time.”
“But I will this time”.(Baxter my friend) “Okay but this is the last
time!” “Fine” “Yes!” “I'll open the door
for him”. “Okay” said Mum. I waited
about 20 minutes, he still wasn't here!. After I waited about 30 minutes he
still wasn't here. Five minutes later he was...here. “Yay!” he's here.
By Eli
"Mum can Stella come
over?" " Sure, only when you clean you're bed room." " I'm
finished, great Stella's coming " " When is she coming?" "
Soon" " Stella's here." " Make sure you tidy up!"
" Sure. Stella what do you want to play?” We did gymnastics. And went swimming. It was awesome. Then she
went home to get her blanket!! She
stayed the night. I told her a scary
story. Then she told me one.
By Alex
"Mum" asked Harper
"yes" said Mum "Can I have Lucia over?" "No!" yelled Mum."But, but…” “ No but's. She can't come over."
"Oh please?!" "Fine!" "Yay! Yay! Yay! You’re the best."
By Harper
“Mum can Luke come
over?".(Luke is 10 years old. He is a very good friend)...”Yes” .”Yay!!!”
I went to look for Luke “Hi Luke " Luke is very far awayH I
thought. "Here he comes" “hi Luke " I said. We went
inside I played with the scooter (my scooter is really cool.)
By Baxter
Can I play with my friend?
I was so bored. "I'm so bored Mum" I said. Mum (who was
already brainstorming.) "Maybe you could..." stuttered Mum "have
your friend over!" Mum quickly answered. "Good idea." I said.
"But what could I play?" Now
crouching around with my head on the top of my hand. "I know!" I
said. "We could play hide and seek! I've got the perfect hiding spot!!”
Sprinting to the door of my friends house (which was Eli's house), I won the
game. I go home.
By Finn
One day I said to my Mum
"Mum!" said Preston. "Mum can I invite my
friend?"
Mum said, "Hmm... Okay"
"Yay," I said
"Or we can go out for an ice cream"
"Hmm I am going with a chocolate ice cream?"
"Okay," said Mum.
